Groundworks
Digging in
Groundworks, it turns out, are mostly about what you can't see. We can't stop watching anyway.

mud, glorious mud
No. 06
Building by the water means you earn your foundations. This month has been machines and mud: the plot stripped back, the ground opened up, everything measured twice and then measured again.
It isn’t glamorous, and none of it will ever make a brochure — no brochure, obviously; this house is going nowhere. But there’s an honesty to groundworks we’ve come to love. It’s the part no one will ever see, and the part everything will forever rest on.
The soundtrack is diggers, gulls, and the odd clink of rigging carrying across the water. Diggers, we can confirm, are wildly watchable at any age. Some days, seeing a bucket the size of a bathtub swing past, they feel like the whole point.
Slow, muddy, unglamorous progress. Our favourite kind.
